Damage to Pigeon long bones in pellets of the Eagle Owl Bubo bubo and food remains of Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus: zooarchaeological implications

  • Véronique LAROULANDIE

Abstract:

In order to find criteria for distinguishing anthropogenic from nonanthropogenic bird assemblages, a taphonomic analysis of modern Pigeon long bones collected from pellets of the Eagle Owl as well as a study of non-ingested Peregrine Falcon food remains has been conducted. Differences between pellets and non-ingested remains were noted in the skeletal part representation, fragmentation, digestion traces and beak impacts.
