Abstract:
The history of birds in Britain is revealed both by the place-names that invoke them and the archaeological evidence. This is a partial survey, concentrating on wild rather than domestic species. Both sets of evidence are biased towards larger and conspicuous birds, and Cranes, Ravens and birds of prey are highlighted in both.
