Abstract:
In this paper the remains of Macroneomys (Soricidae, Mammalia) from the deposit of Visogliano Shelter (Karst of Trieste, Northern Italy), an important human occupation site of the Middle Pleistocene, are described. This genus is reported from the late Early and early Middle Pleistocene from Central Europe, from France and further for the first time from Italy. This new evidence suggests that some fossil shrews, previously attributed to Nesiolites, from Northern Italian localities may actually have belonged to the same genus.
