Evolution of Anomalomys Gaillard, 1900 (Rodentia, Mammalia) in the Miocene of Poland

  • Kazimierz KOWALSKI

Abstract:

Isolated molars of Anomalomys from three different levels of sediments in the brown-coal mine of Bełchatów, representing mammalian zones MN 4 to MN 9 have been studied. They illustrate the evolution of dimensions and pattern of teeth in this evolutionary lineage of rodents. Bełchatów is a unique fossil locality with populations of Anomalomys from three different horizons. They belong to A. minor and A. gaudryi. The material of Anomalomys kowalskii KORDOS, 1989 from the Miocene of Opole has also been studied.
