Early Pleistocene Predicrostonyx (Rodentia, Mammalia) from Poland

  • Adam NADACHOWSKI

Abstract:

A description is given of Predicrostonyx compitalis from the locality of Zalesiaki 1A/13. On the basis of the com m on occurrence of two species of the evolved Allophaiomys [Microtus (Allophaiomys) pliocaenicus praehintoni and Microtus (Allophaiomys) nutiensis] and the first true Microtus species identified here as Microtus (Microtus) sp. and Microtus (Microtus) ex. gr. hyperboreus, the assemblage is believed to come from above the Lower/Upper Biharian boundary most probably corresponding to the final part of the Matuyama Chron, preceding the Jaramillo event. The early history of Dicrostonychini in the Northern Hemisphere is also discussed.
