Abstract:
We describe some remains of late Miocene Paracamelus cf. aguirrei from Eastern Europe. The specimens originate from limestone deposits dated to the lower Pontian (the Novorossian substage) of the Black Sea marine stratigraphic scheme. These camel fossils are among the earliest in Europe. These late Miocene camels were ancestors of the Pliocene Paracamelus, whose remains are common in the numerous localities of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov regions.
