Abstract:
The description presented in this paper includes the site, construction, building materials as well as the shape and size of the nests of the following species: Sylvia atricapilla, S. communis, S. nisoria, S. curruca, S. althaea, S. borin, S. hortensis, S. melanocephala, S. rüppelli, S. cantillans, S. nаnа, S. mystacea, S. conspicillata, S. undata and S. sarda. The species characterized by a large breeding range show a greater variety of nest-sites than those with a smaller range. The occurrence of various types of nests is connected rather with the geographical distribution of the species than with the size of its range. The similarities in structure between these nests suggest closer phylogenetic relationships between some species within the genus Sylviа.
