Experimental Studies on the Nesting of Bullfinch Pyrrhula pyrrhula (Linnaeus, 1758) in Avaries

  • Zygmunt BOCHEŃSKI
  • Tadeusz OLEŚ

Abstract:

All nest building is done exclusively by the female Bullfinch. She breaks off dry twigs for building the base and makes the cup and lining of material gathered from the ground. The amount of material used depends upon the female´s predisposition. Only the female incubates. The male accompanies her closely, while she is building the nest and brooding, and his close presence is necessary for the normal course of these activities.
